Twelve squirrel monkeys have gone stolen from a Louisiana zoo, the latest in a series of animal robberies.
The primates were seized by someone who broke into the zoo soon before midnight on January, according to Zoosiana in Broussard.
"The person targeted facilities of smaller primates, notably the squirrel monkey display," the zoo stated in a statement.
"Unfortunately, the individual was successful in snatching 12 squirrel monkeys."
The Zoosiana vet and animal care staff have thoroughly evaluated the surviving squirrel monkeys.
There are no other obvious problems harming their health or well-being.
according to a post on the 45-acre zoological park's website.
All other animals have been found and appear to have been unharmed."
The disappearance of the 12 squirrel monkeys from the Louisiana zoo follows the discovery of two tamarin monkeys inside a closet at an abandoned property.
Following the loss of the tamarin monkeys and a slew of other animals from the zoo, the Dallas Zoo stated on Wednesday that it will be working on a new security system.
