We Are One

Not to be confused with a song of the same name from Disney’s Animal Kingdom attraction, Rivers of Light, “We Are One” is a song sung by Simba (Cam Clarke) and Kiara (Charity Sanoy) from Disney’s The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, which is the second sequel to Disney’s The Lion King. ‘We Are One is sung by Simba and Kiara from Disney.

Tom Snow composed the song “We Are One” for The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, which was released as part of the film’s soundtrack on September 8, 1998. Simba and Kiara sing it as Simba teaches her that their family is one. The song is about acceptance and unity and was written with the intent of being an anthem for inclusion and diversity.

Background

Following Kiara’s confrontation with Kovu, Zira, and the Outsiders, which puts her in danger, Simba emphasizes how essential she is to the pride, how much he and Nala love her and reminds her that they are “one.” This song is the musical counterpart of Mufasa and Simba’s conversation about the Great Kings of the Past in the first film. Throughout the song, Kiara questions Simba about what it means to be a leader, and Simba explains that it means leading with your heart. Kiara asks Simba if it’s acceptable for her to be herself throughout this song. When Kiara is presented as an adult, and at the end of the film when the Pride Lands and Outlands are one, an instrumental version of the song is played. It’s a fitting way to end the film, just as it was a fitting way to begin it.You may also Like: At Disney’s D23, “Mufasa: The Lion King” was unveiled

We Are One

“ Kiara: But what if I don’t wanna be queen? It’s no fun.
Simba: That’s like saying you don’t want to be a lion. It’s in your blood…as I am. We are part of each other.
—Kiara and Simba ”

The Lion King We Are One Fact:

  1. In The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, there are many instrumental reprises of “We Are One,” in the soundtrack, notably before Kiara’s first hunt and before Kiara’s marriage to Kovu.
  2. The song features Return to Pride Rock, along with a remix sung in half English and part African by Angélique Kidjo. This remix is quite unique, as it combines Angélique’s vocals with instrumentation from traditional African instruments.
  3. Along with “My Lullaby,” the song was nominated for an Annie Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Music in an Animated Feature Production, along with the song. It was also nominated for an award. When Simba’s purr and warm chin rub on Kiara, there is an issue, since lions typically cannot purr continuously.
  4. Finally, Simba accepts that he was mistaken about Kovu and asks the Outsiders to return home. All the animals in the kingdom assemble as King Simba, Queen Nala, Princess Kiara, and Prince Kovu roar loudly on top of Pride Rock, followed by the lionesses. Soon after, Mufasa’s spirit appears in the sky and congratulates Simba on his efforts, telling him that they are one.

Lyrics: The Lion King: We Are One from Simba’s Pride is a song from the movie The Lion King.

Simba:

As you go through life, you’ll see
There is so much that we
Don’t understand
And the only thing we know
Is things don’t always go
The way we planned
But you’ll see every day
That we’ll never turn away
When it seems all your dreams come undone
We will stand by your side
Filled with hope and filled with pride
We are more than we are
We are one

Chorus:
Family, family
We are one (2x)

Kiara:
If there’s so much I must be
Can I still just be me
The way I am?
Can I trust in my own heart?
Or am I just one part
Of some big plan?

Simba:
Even those who are gone
Are with us as we go on
Your journey has only begun
Tears of pain, tears of joy
One thing nothing can destroy
Is our pride, deep inside
We are one

Repeat chorus

Simba:
We are one, you and I
We are like the earth and sky
One family under the sun
All the wisdom to lead
All the courage that you need
You will find when you see
We are one

Chorus:
(One, one, one)
Family, family
We are one (repeat)
