Timon the Lion King Animals: Character Analysis

Timon the Lion King Animals Character Analysis: Timon and Pumba are two of the most beloved characters in The Lion King, and there’s a good reason for that. They’re witty, cheeky, and always up to some funny business. Here’s a deeper look at the characters of Timon and Pumba.

The Lion King was released more than two decades ago, but it’s still one of the most popular movies of all time. I’m sure you’ve seen it many times, but did you notice all the subtle details hidden in the background? Here’s a list of the Lion King animals and a brief analysis of Timon the Lion King Animals:

what animal is Timon from lion king

timon the lion king

Timon, on the other hand, is a meerkat, a smaller mongoose noted for living in big groups and standing on its hind legs to keep an eye out for danger. They are also native to southern Africa, just like warthogs, and hence are not out of place in the area. They are also just like warthogs in that they live in groups and are native to southern Africa. They are also just like earth animals in that they live in groups and are not out of place in the area.

Some liberties have been taken with the animals’ reality, and not everything about Timon’s portrayal as a meerkat in the film is accurate. I don’t think that’s a problem with the film

Timon's Philosophy

Timon is a great character in Disney’s 1994 animated feature picture The Lion King and the character of The Lion King 1½ in 2004. He is a witty meerkat and Pumbaa the warthog’s best buddy.

Despite coming from a hardworking family, Timon enjoys an easygoing lifestyle of grub-eating and napping under a “problem-free ideology” dubbed Hakuna Matata. He is known for his witty one-liners, which include, but are not limited to, lines such as, “You’re so lazy, you’ve already died twice.” and “You’ll never find a more honest meerkat”.

Timon - Physical appearance

Timon is an elderly meerkat. He has tan fur with a lighter underbelly (and palms), red-coral hair, and triangle points on his arms that are browner in tone (the same color as his toes and fingers).

He has a massively dark brown nose (which turns red when he is in agony), white teeth, large black eyes and brows, and a wide smile. He is quite short for a meerkat, standing at only 1.9 meters (6’3″) and weighing 91.8 kilograms (202 lbs). He has an extremely large head, and his ears are large and pointed.

Uncle Max & Ma: Timon’s Relatives

The Lion King 2: Uncle Max: Even die-hard Disney fans have missed The Lion King 1½ , yet much of Timon’s backstory was revealed in that film. Timon, for example, now has two recognized relatives: his mother, who is formally known as Ma, and his uncle, who is named Max. However, viewers are unsure if Uncle Max and Ma are siblings or in-laws.

The Lion King: Why the Mother and Son Relationship is So Important

Ma is a loving and supportive mother who is concerned about Timon’s safety while still wanting their son to thrive in life. Uncle Max is a more irritable character that is frequently terrified and pessimistic, reminding Disney fans of a younger Marlin from Finding Nemo.

Timon and pumbaa

Timon is Pumbaa’s best friend, Simba’s companion and protector (when he was a cub), Ma’s son, and Uncle Max’s nephew.

He and Pumbaa took in Simba when he fell from heat exhaustion and remorse following his father’s death, inspired by the concept of having a huge predator on their side in The Lion King. He is also a friend of the meerkat and the warthog, and he is the best friend of Pumbaa.

Timon and pumbaa Origin

There are two stories about Timon’s origin. One story is that he lived in a colony headed by the Duke Meerkat in the Timon and Pumbaa episode “Once Upon a Timon,” and each meerkat in the colony had certain tasks that they all took very seriously.

Timon was on guard duty one day when the Duke was abroad, but he left to chat with Princess Tatiana, Duke Meerkat’s daughter, whom Timon had a huge crush on. The other story is that Timon was a soldier in the Meerkat Military, and he was demoted to the Timon and Pumbaa episode “Once Upon a Timon” for failing to stop a meerkat from escaping.

The Lion King's Swahili Words and Characters

Pumbaa: The Animal That Inspired The Lion King: Many of the vocabulary and character names in The Lion King were derived from the Swahili language, which is used in many countries of Africa, including Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania, to mention a few. “Hakuna Matata,” for example, originates from Swahili and simply means “no worries.” The song ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’ was also written in Swahili. The song was written by Quincy Jones and features the voices of Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie.

The Lion King’s Swahili Words and Characters: “Pumbaa,” like many other names and words in The Lion King, is a Swahili word. “Pumbaa” can imply “lazy,” “careless,” or even “ignorant,” according to interpreters. Needless to say, Pumbaa’s name hinted at the character’s personality. ‘Pumbaa’ was also a Swahili word for a lion cub. The name was inspired by a real lion cub that lived in the Disney theme park.

The Lion King 1½: Timon's Story

Timon and his colony, on the other hand, lived in underground tunnels in The Lion King 1½, where they dug in continual terror of hyenas. Timon is largely portrayed as the colony’s every-man meerkat, yearning for a better existence “where we don’t have to build tunnels and live with our heads jammed in the sand.”

He was despised by his fellow meerkats due to his terrible digging abilities. His mother persuaded his uncle Max to place him on watch duty, but the plan backfired when Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed attacked. Timon decided to look for a new home because the meerkats (save Ma) blamed him for the invasion. This was due to the fact that Timon was the worst digger in the colony.

Lion king Timon and Pumbaa's Backstory - Hakuna Matata

Timon and Pumbaa were presented as youngsters from the Pride Lands who were childhood friends of Simba in the early versions of The Lion King. Later, it was determined that Timon and Pumbaa would be outcasts in order for Simba to have someone to take him under their wing following his exile. Timon had a stanza outlining his biography when he wrote “Hakuna Matata.” Timon, according to the song, was an outcast in his meerkat colony because he refused to labor.

This eventually led to his exile. The directors decided that the verse wasn’t working and rewrote it to focus on Pumbaa’s history instead. Pumbaa’s stanza focused on his childhood. Pumbaa, according to the song, grew up in a loving family and was raised with love. However, one day, he was forced to labor. This eventually led to his exile. The directors decided that the verse wasn’t working and rewrote it to focus on Timon’s history instead.

Why Timon Walked Like a Human

How The Lion King Changed Timon’s Physicality: It is very common for cartoon companies to modify some aspects of animals to make them suitable for the big screen. The Lion King’s production crew made an early decision to have Timon walk on his two hind legs rather than mimicking the physicality of meerkats, which is typical for members of the species.

Timon and Pumbaa: The Meerkat Walk:
That is because, in the real world, meerkats walk on all fours. They only stand on their two hind legs to scan their surroundings before returning to walking on all fours. Timon, on the other hand, is primarily shown walking like a human in The Lion King, which is unlike most other meerkats in the real world.

The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride

He is also very much a bit of a coward, but he has the ability to be very much a bit of a daredevil, as evidenced by the scene in The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride where he tried to intimidate Zira by sarcastically introducing himself and Pumbaa to her, yelling at her to get out of their Pride Lands, but it backfired when Zira immediately replied, “their Pride Lands?!” and roared very loudly.

Timon: The Loving Lion

Timon is seen to have a very nice heart in The Lion King 1½, and he is seen to be affectionate in various sequences between him and Ma, as well as between him and Simba.

He also enjoys a close relationship with Ma. Furthermore, while he only chose to adopt Simba so that he could protect himself and Pumbaa, he regarded Simba as his own son, even telling Pumbaa that “Simba is growing up” after being vanquished by the teenage lion. Timon, on the other hand, demonstrates a selfish side when he refuses to assist Simba in his challenge to Scar and prefers to stay alone in the bush rather than accompany Pumbaa to Pride Rock.

Timon and Pumbaa: Best Friends

Timon is particularly well-known for his friendship with Pumbaa, the warthog. The two are virtually inseparable and are frequently pictured together. Because they are so close, they share hobbies like napping, recreational activities, and, most importantly, eating bugs, which they call grubs. Timon’s selfishness and Pumbaa’s ultimate nobility lead their personalities to conflict, and the partnership is known to dispute sometimes.

Even so, they never stay apart for long, and their relationship is eventually re-tightened. Also, while Pumbaa is the genuine brains of the group, he is still extremely childlike, whilst Timon is seen to be fairly protective of the warthog when the latter is involved in some sort of tragic occurrence owing to his naivety. This exemplifies Timon’s undying devotion to his friends and family. Despite his self-centered mentality, despite the sacrifices he must make, he will finally come around to do what is right.

Timon and Pumbaa (Simba's Friends)

Timon and Pumbaa are first seen when they locate Simba after he has succumbed to heat exhaustion and is ready to be devoured by vultures. They then proceed to play “Bowling for Buzzards,” scaring away the vultures while they do so. Timon was reluctant to accept a predator, but Pumbaa recommended that they train him to be on their side so that he doesn’t eat them. Timon chuckles at the notion at first, but later adopts it as his own.

Hakuna Matata

When Simba awakens, Timon is shown emphasizing that they saved him, knowing that he, too, is an outcast like them. They then taught him Hakuna Matata, their life philosophy. They also exposed Simba to a bug diet in order to prevent him from eating them one day. As Simba grows older, he continues to learn Hakuna Matata and becomes more careless. He also becomes more interested in exploring the world.

The Pride Lands

Timon and Pumbaa watch Simba inherit the throne of Pride Rock, which was intended for him years before, after Scar’s death and victory in the war. They are next seen when the Pride Lands are restored to their former splendor, with the Pride Animals reuniting, and Timon perched on top of Pumbaa as they attend the presentation of Simba and Nala’s newborn cub, which follows the war and the death of Scar.
